Brief Introduction of 1. PLC Optical Splitter
PLC planar waveguide optical splitter (PLCSplitter) is an integrated waveguide optical power distribution device based on quartz substrate. Like coaxial cable transmission system, optical network system also needs to couple, branch and distribute optical signals, which needs optical splitter to realize. It is one of the most important passive devices in an optical fiber link, and is an optical fiber tandem device with multiple input ends and multiple output ends. It is particularly suitable for connecting a bureau end and a terminal device in a passive optical network (EPON,GPON,BPON, etc.) and implementing branching of an optical signal.
Classification and use of 2. PLC
1. Bare fiber type
The bare fiber PLC optical splitter is directly led out by optical fiber (usually ribbon cable), and the two ends are not ended. It is mainly suitable for occasions that are not frequently disassembled. It is installed in various types of tail fiber boxes or tester tables by welding or cold connection.
2. Micro
Micro PLC refers to a small optical splitter assembly packaged with steel pipe and 0.9mm loose tube for fiber output. Mainly suitable for installation space is relatively tight, do not need to weld or cold joint, such as optical cable splice box, optical fiber splitter box, can also be installed in the plug-in and rack-mounted optical splitter combination box.
3. ABS box type
ABS plastic box package, port pigtail lead out. Mainly used in the rack, fiber branch into the home, installed in the optical cable junction box.
4. Plug type
The plug-in PLC uses ABS plastic box package, and the port adopts end type. It is used for the user access point that needs light splitting in FTTX system. Its main function is to complete the end of the optical cable entering the residential area or building. It has the functions of fixing, stripping, welding, jumper wire, branching, etc. of the optical fiber. After light splitting, it enters the end user in the form of home optical cable.
5. Rack type
Rack-mounted PLC is encapsulated in a metal box.
3. advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
(1) The loss is not sensitive to the wavelength of the transmitted light and can meet the transmission needs of different wavelengths.
(2) The light is evenly divided, and the signal can be evenly distributed to users.
(3) Compact structure, small size, can be directly installed in the existing various junction box, without special design to leave a lot of installation space.
(4) There are many shunt channels for a single device, which can reach more than 32 channels.
(5) Multi-channel cost is low, the more the number of splitting, the more obvious the cost advantage.
Disadvantages:
(1) The device manufacturing process is complex and the technical threshold is high. At present, the chip is monopolized by several foreign companies, and there are only a few domestic companies that can produce large quantities of packaging.
(2) Compared with the fused taper splitter, the cost is higher, especially in the low-channel splitter.
